Heavy fines and other punishments will be used to deter illegal disposal of medical waste, authorities in China have said. According to CRI, public and private organisation that illegally collect, store, transport
and handle medical waste will have their licenses revoked and will be
heavily fined by the National Health and
Family Planning Commission.
In Shanghai, the local health department has said it will introduce improvements such as make it easier to book appointments and improve cleanliness of toilets at local hospitals, after a survey found patients were
unsatisfied with several aspects of hospitals. Other improvements include more variety of food, showing the prices of medical services, and encouraging medical staff to be more polite to
patients.
China's new computerised organ donor system is likely to be inaccesible to many, it has been conceded. The new system that aims to provide fairer districbution of organs from 165 transplant hospitals will only work if all institutions follow regulations strictly said a spokesman for the National Health and Family
Planning Commission.
