Study from Peking University finds that among 5800 gay men there were 484 (8·3%) prevalent cases of
HIV infection and 293 (5·1%) prevalent cases of syphilis.
Among 3178 gay men who were HIV negative at enrolment and who had also
completed at least one follow-up interview, 387 infections were observed
in up to 5467 person-years of follow-up, implying an incidence of 7·1
per 100 person-years, with median follow-up of 1·7
years and an average retention rate of 84% per 6 month
interval.
