Pakistan invalidates medical degrees from Chinese universities

Thirty-five doctors who had graduated from Chinese medical universities have challenged before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) the decision of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) with regard to not registering foreign medical graduates without taking an examination.
Legal counsel of the petitioners Barrister Masroor Shah apprised the court that the petitioners took admission in Xi’an Jiaotong University of China in 2008. While the petitioners were studying for the MBBS degrees, the PMDC changed its policy pertaining to the registration of these graduates as registered medical practitioners. Under the new policy, the MBBS graduates of foreign universities who are enrolled after April 3, 2011, were required to appear in the PMDC’s National Examination Board examinations in order to qualify as a registered medical practitioner in Pakistan.
